Adelmo Maestas was born July 5th, 1940 to Esmael & Doloretas Maestas in La Jara, Colorado. As the middle child in a large family, Adelmo was an extrovert in the truest sense of the word. Adelmo’s outgoing personality caught the eye of his future wife, Helen. They were married August 26, 1961 and made the move from Colorado to Idaho. They lived in Burley for ten years and Albion for fifty years. Adelmo was a hard working employee at the Amalgamated Sugar Factory for 30 years but also enjoyed socializing with co-workers. In his free time, Adelmo liked to go camping, riding motorcycles and four-wheelers, and going on vacation to Colorado to visit relatives. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, Karaoke and classic Western music. The Fourth of July was his favorite holiday and he considered it the pre-party to his birthday. He especially enjoyed decorating and riding his four-wheeler in the Albion Fourth of July parade and eventually sharing the experience with his grandchildren. When Adelmo retired, he was deemed the unofficial “Mayor of Albion” by his family. He would go on a daily four-wheeler rides around town, visiting with and helping neighbors, and swapping stories with travelers coming through town. Always the optimist and positive thinker, Adelmo loved living the simple life and will be missed by a large collection of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife, son Juan (Kaitie) Maestas and 5 grandchildren of Albion, Idaho; sister Frances (Roy) Hall of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother Bernal (Connie) Maestas of Alamosa, Colorado; brother Floyd (Tammy) Maestas of Farmington, New Mexico; and two sisters-in-law, Nancy Maestas of Alamosa, Colorado and Emily Maestas of Albion, Idaho.
