Gaylord C Young, 82, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, March 29, 2026 in Burley, Idaho. The tenth child born to Floyd and Effie Case Young on January 4, 1944. When he was born, he was an uncle to many nieces and nephews already who tried to boss him around. He said he had 8 loving mothers! He had 2 years of high school, then worked for his brother, Ralph in Nyssa, Oregon. Some of his best friends were his nephews, Richard and Brent “Tiny” Young spending the summer thinking up pranks to play on each other. He worked delivering milk for Young Dairy, then Simplot until he ended up driving for Idaho Milk. He drove all across the United States and into Canada. His roots were in Burley and he only left when he was drafted into the military. Serving in the Artillery in the Vietnam War. Afterwards he joined the Idaho National Guard where he retired. He received the Rifle Marksman, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, 2 Bronze Service Stars, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the VFW of the Burley American Legion and the VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Ida Young, daughter, Shannon (John) and grand daughter Deirdre and numerous nieces and nephews who have their own experiences and stories to tell about his shenanigans. He is preceded in death buy his parents, sisters Juanita (Max) Young, Velma (Albert) Posey, June (Gene) Peterson, Lois (Cecil) Dayley, Idarae (Floyd) Mathes, Ennajo (Dan) Barclay, Madge (Darrel) Hodge and brothers Ralph (Phyllis) Young and Kenneth (Ann) Young.
He was the last born and left a lasting legacy of fun, tall tales and thinking that anything was possible with a little imagination. He never met a stranger! He will certainly be missed and whenever we think of him we’ll smile and grin. He attended the Truth Tabernacle Church. We would like to thank the caregivers in the Oncology Department and Dr. North and staff.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2026 at the Truth Tabernacle Church 2459 Highland Avenue, Burley, Idaho.
