Mildred E. Gerrard, 89 of Paul went to be with the love of her life, Rev. John E Gerrard during the early morning hours of October 31, 2014. Mildred was born January 6, 1925 in Dulce, New Mexico, to Roland & Nora Thurman. She grew up on the family ranch in Chama, New Mexico. Her family was often entertained with stories of the mischief and fun that she and her two sisters, Grace and LaVern had being the “ranch hands.” Mildred attended school in Chama before going on to Mercy Medical School of Nursing in Pueblo, Colorado. While attending Nursing School she met John Gerrard through letters while he was serving in the United States Army. They were married on June 12, 1945, just two weeks after he got home. In the early years of their marriage, John worked in the oil fields of Texas and New Mexico. In the mid 1950’s they gave their lives to Christ and felt the call of the ministry. Together they pioneered the Assembly of God Church in Big Piney, Wyoming where they lived from 1958 to 1963. In 1963 they moved to Brigham City, Utah to minister. They pastored in Burley and Hazelton, Idaho from 1965-1976, before retiring in Paul, Idaho. It was during their stay in Burley that Mildred completed her nursing education, earning her LPN. She worked at Cassia Memorial Hospital till her retirement. Ironically, in 2004 she became a resident of Park View Care Center, which is now housed in the old hospital building where she spent her career. John and Mildred enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing and were always willing to lend a helping hand. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and her loving husband. She is survived by her four children John M. (Nancy) Gerrard, Iva L. (L. Wayne) Tuttle, Deborah K. (Frederick S.) Carpenter and E. Vernel (Michael A.)
