Norma Jean (Mencke) Rapp of Burley and formerly of North Shoshone, Idaho passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023 peacefully at her home surrounded by family.
Norma was born on June 10, 1929, in Blair, Nebraska (Washington County) the daughter of Otto Mencke and Lucinda (Lizzy) G.T. Christ in Bellevue, Illinois.
Norma grew up and attended school in Blair, Nebraska. She was one thirteen children, twelve girls and one boy. In 1946 Norma married LaVaughn Helsley and moved from Nebraska to Castleford, Idaho then later to Shoshone. They had five children Diana, Bruce, Ronald, Allen, and Kathy. After LaVaughn's passing in 1957, Norma and her five children married friend and neighbor, Roy Rapp in 1960. Two daughters joined the family, Tammy and Maria. They spent time on the family farm north of Shoshone and raised the seven children. She enjoyed traveling between Idaho and Arizona, loved the Red Hatters, music, and hearing and telling a good joke, and most of all, time spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and friends.
Norma is survived by four daughters, Diana (Patrick) Kelley, Kate Cheney, Tammy (Pete) Rodriguez, and Maria (Jerry) Warden and three sons, Bruce (Janice) Helsley, Ronald (Vivian) Helsley, Allen (Laura) Helsley. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, eleven sisters and brother, grandchildren Rick Helsley, Shawn Smith, James Boore, Justin Cheney, LaVaughn Helsley, and great grandchildren; Jennifer Rose Rodriguez, and Rebecca Smith.
The funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Morrison Payne Funeral Home in Burley with a viewing from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. She will be buried at the Pleasant View Cemetery next to her husband, Roy.
