Percy Christensen Obituary

Percy Christensen a 90 year old resident of Burley passed away Thursday, July 7, 2022 in Burley, Idaho.

 

Percy was born February 22, 1932 in Tekamah, Nebraska to Percy and Lillian Wilkins Christensen.  He was the eldest of three children.  The family moved to the Oakley Basin when he was 7 ½ years old.  He attended the Basin Elementary School and graduated from Oakley High School in 1950.  He attended Albion State Normal School for one year.  He continued his education at Idaho State College.  While at Idaho State College, he played on the 1952 undefeated football team.

 

Percy was introduced to Joan Fuger at a softball game.  They were married on November 21, 1953 in Pocatello, Idaho.

 

In March 1954, Percy enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  While enlisted, he served in Japan and played football for the Marines.  He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1956.  He returned to Idaho and finished his education graduating from Idaho State College.  He began his career in education as a teacher in Richfield, Idaho.  His career took him to Murtaugh, Hansen, Jerome, and Rimrock High Schools.  During his career, he was a teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent.  He was a friend and mentor to many students throughout his career.

 

Percy and Joan were blessed with 5 children, Terry, Ted, Kelly, Dennis, and Tim.  The family enjoyed spending time in the South Hills camping, hunting, riding motorcycles, four wheelers, and side by sides.  Percy and Joan loved to spend summers in Washington boating and crabbing.  Percy retired from education in 1995.  After his retirement, they spent winters in Arizona where many new friends were made.

 

He is survived by his wife, Joan; his children Ted (Kari), Kelly, Dennis (Kris), Tim (Cari); his son-in-law Wayne; his grandchildren Rick (Brandy), Rusty, Nicole, Melissa (Brian), Josh, Kimberly (Dave), Greg (Heather), Spencer (Chelsae), Garett, Emilie (Nate), Trevor, Connor, Caylee; his great grandchildren Ryan Ann (Caleb), Kylie, Alexis, Audrey (Cade), Gracie, Olivia, Issac, Chloe, Gabe, Jaycsis, Morgun, Logun, Raymond, and Jones; his great-great grandchildren, Lily and Waylon; and his brother Niel (Janet).

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Lillian Christensen; his in-laws, George and Grace Fuger; his sister, Velma Jean Mabey; his daughter, Terry Funk; and his great grandson, Rickey Funk.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S Fifth Avenue, Pocatello, Idaho.  A viewing will take place from 10:30-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Morrison Payne Funeral Home.
