Ruben James Braun

Ruben James Braun, 99, of Burley, Idaho, passed away peacefully in his home on November 4, 2024. Ruben was born on May 8, 1925, in American Falls, Idaho, the son of Jacob Braun and Lydia Schuh.

Ruben spent his early years in Raft River, Idaho, cementing valuable life skills as he worked on the family ranch. He graduated from Burley High School in 1943 and was drafted into the United States Army the following year. Ruben was conscripted to the Western Front in World War II, serving in the Battle of the Bulge, and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery in the call of duty.

Ruben married Shirley May Halford on August 24, 1944, in Burley, Idaho, while on a brief military leave. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS temple. Following the war, Ruben held multiple jobs, ultimately becoming a regional manager for the agricultural machine manufacturer Massey Furgeson.

Ruben loved the outdoors—camping, hunting, skiing, and fishing on the Oregon coast and along the Salmon River in Stanley, Idaho. He was also an avid golfer and bowler. He served in a variety of roles within his local LDS church congregation, including many years as a leader in the scouting program.

Ruben is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Braun, his sister Frances Waterman, and his half-brother Clarence Mayer. He is survived by children Janice Harper, Richard Braun, Carol Ann Braun, and David Braun, along with his eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 11, 2024 at Morrison Payne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at the Burley 10th Ward church building on 515 East 16th Street in Burley, Idaho with a viewing held an hour prior to the service. Services will conclude with burial at Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley. Military Honors will be conducted by the Mini- Cassia Veterans. Services are under the direction of Morrison Payne Funeral Home.
