Walter Eugene Thompson 82, of Burley, Idaho was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday March 24, 2015 with his family by his side. Walt was one of four brothers and one sister. He was born to Cal and Pearl Thompson on January 24, 1933 in Cameron, Missouri. He met Joan (Stoltenberg) the love of his life at age 17. They were married on September 22, 1951 in Kimberly, Idaho on Joan’s 16th birthday. Together they were blessed with six children - George, Tress, Valle, Walt Jr., Kelly, and Tammy. Dad had and amazing love for the Lord and his family. He loved the outdoors and one of his passions was fishing. He was the owner of Walt’s Concrete for over 50 years. He loved working and meeting people. Dad never met a stranger, he was known by many and loved by all. He was also the Pastor of New Life Fellowship for 28 years. He found the Lord in 1967 and his life was forever changed. He loved preaching, playing his guitar, singing and worshiping God. His presence will be greatly missed. Dad was fortunate in the last year of his life to meet a wonderful woman, Velma Beal with whom he enjoyed spending time with. Dad is survived by six children, George (Nancy) Thompson, Tress (Ray) Eagle, Valle (Les) Steube, Walt Thompson Jr., Kelly (Debbie) Thompson, and Tammy (Rick)Zimmerman. He is also survived by his 13 grandchildren, 24 3/4 great grandchildren and his four legged son, Cookie. Dad was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, his mother and father, 4 brothers, 1 sister and son-in-law John Green. A celebration of Walt’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Grace Community Church, 100 North Meridian in Rupert with his son-in-law, Pastor Rick Zimmerman, officiating. Friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Morrison Payne Funeral Home, 321 East Main Street in Burley and one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. The family wishes to thank Intermountain Hospice. We were blessed with the wonderful team of Stacey, Kay, Mindy, Ilene, Stephanie, and Mario. Words cannot express the kindness and care they showed towards dad.
